European Educational Project is the name of our cooperation with the Liceo Scientifico in Voghera Italy; the longest running international project at our school, which started in 1996. You participate in the project for two years, first as a novice fourth former, then as an experienced fifth former who can help with peer teaching. Since the programme takes two years, the work on national level is followed by an exchange which takes place either in Leiden or Voghera; as a participating student you both host and get to be a guest of an Italian family.

The subject matter is Environmental and Social Sustainability, which we combine with cultural elements and debating. To get familiar with the subject matter the students visit companies or more ideological organisations which are involved in sustainability. This year the bureau which works on Rotterdam’s highest building (the Maastoren) and Arcadis have welcomed us, but interviews have also been conducted with social workers in The Hague and Leiden. Thus students can gain insight into the practical side of sustainability before they develop their more theoretical propositions.

The cultural elements which are included in this year’s programme are a cultural presentation for the Italian host whom we will visit in April, as well as a programme in Milan (the famous Brera museum and the Duomo), and Pavia.
